HOLISTIC NUTRITION CONSULTING
Food Is A Powerful Medicine
To better understand what Holistic Nutrition Consulting is and how it can be
so beneficial to you, let me first explain to you what a Registered Holistic
Nutritional Consultant is...
WHAT IS A REGISTERED HOLISTIC NUTRITIONAL CONSULTANT?
A Registered Holistic Nutritional Consultant (RHN), such as myself, is a
professional trained in natural nutrition (I attended the
Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in Dartmouth, NS),whose main role is
to educate individuals and/or groups about the benefits and health
impacts of optimal nutrition. I will not only provide education on holistic
nutrition, but also guide and coach you to implement a healthier lifestyle
using a holistic approach. As an RHN, I will work with you on a one-on-one
basis to fully understand your individual needs, and then I will develop a plan with recommendations to help guide you and empower you on your journey towards holistic health and wellness.
WHAT IS HOLISTIC NUTRITION?
The holistic approach takes into account the concept that we are all complex beings – mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually – and that our entire body works as a whole system. All of the systems within our bodies are interconnected, so that when there is something wrong in one part of our body, it will affect our entire body. In knowing this, it makes sense that in terms of health and wellness, there cannot be a “one size fits all” approach to holistic nutrition, but rather it must be based on individual needs and finding the root cause of any health concerns.
Holistic nutrition is not only what you eat, but how you eat, why you eat, where you eat, and when you eat. It is based on eating healthy food as close to its natural state as possible for optimum health (complete well-being almost all the time; not merely the absence of illness) – unrefined, unprocessed, organic, and locally grown whole foods. It is a ‘special combination of modern science and time-tested wisdom based on the philosophy that each person has unique nutritional requirements.’ Each person has specific needs based on their mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Consideration of these needs, combined with nutrient-dense whole foods and lifestyle recommendations, help one come back to a state of equilibrium – a state of balance/homeostasis. A process of empowerment occurs as one takes responsibility for him/herself by making changes necessary to become healthier and more balanced. The one critical component to holistic nutrition and holistic health is the individual’s active participation – it is ultimately the individual (client) who holds the key to his/her own well-being!
THE INITIAL ASSESSMENT
The initial assessment is comprised of two parts: 1st session (30 minutes) and the 2nd session (1 hour).
THE 1st SESSION (30 minutes):
During the 1st session I will give you an overview of what to expect during the consultation process. You will get to know me a bit better, but more importantly I will begin the process of getting to know you better. I will go over the very important paperwork that you will need to fill out that will give me very detailed information about you. The forms are quite lengthy, but the information that you provide in the forms will help me to get a clearer picture of your holistic health. Since food can be a powerful medicine, it is vital I know as much about your health as possible, as I will be making recommendations that can ultimately change your life.
The forms you will leave with, and will fill out prior to coming to your 2nd session, are:
-
The Lifestyle Assessment Form
-
The Nutri-Systems Profile (NSP) Form
-
Daily Food/Lifestyle Journals
(**NOTE: please be as detailed and honest as possible with the information you provide, as this will ensure you get the most effective treatment plan for your current health situation)
I will also give you some general lifestyle recommendations that you can start implementing right away. Once I have reviewed all of the information you have provided in your take-home forms, I will then be able to give you more specific, individualized and detailed recommendations.
BEFORE THE 2nd SESSION:
Prior to coming in for your 2nd session you will need to have completed the Lifestyle Assessment Form, the Nutri-Systems Profile (NSP) Form, and the Daily Food/Lifestyle Journals, and have them returned to me. The forms can be emailed/faxed/dropped off to me, or to the receptionist at Inverness Chiropractic in Inverness (if that is the office location you had your 1st session). Other arrangements can also be made if these options don't work for you.
THE 2nd SESSION (1 hour):
Once you have completed the forms and have returned them to me, I will follow-up with booking your second consultation session. It will normally take me one-to-two weeks to evaluate and assess the information you have provided in your forms, and to come up with recommendations and a meal plan. I may also contact you during this evaluation and assessment phase for further clarification on information you have provided on your forms.
A TYPICAL HOLISTIC NUTRITION CONSULTATION/COUNSELLING SESSION & FOLLOW-UP SESSION(S)
During your 2nd consultation session, I will discuss the information from your assessment forms with you. I will highlight areas of concern and point out where there may be imbalances in your body systems. We will discuss the areas that you have identified as your main health concerns and I will explain how I have incorporated these into my recommendations. And I will give you an information package which outlines details of these recommendations I have made for you based on your own individual holistic health. This package may include some or all of the following, depending on your individual needs:
-
Client Agreement Forms – such as: Client Statement, Client Confidentiality Agreement, Privacy Consent, Payment for Services Contract, Expectations & Commitment Form
-
Recommendation Checklist – a categorized list all of the recommendations

**While these are my recommendations as an RHN, based on what I believe will improve your overall health and well-being, your health is ultimately in your own hands. YOU are the one in control of your own health and it is ultimately up to you to decide whether to incorporate them into your life, or not.
FOLLOW-UP SESSIONS (1 hour) will be used to track your progress, address any concerns, and make any necessary adjustments or changes to your plan. It will be important for you to go to your follow-up sessions to get the most out of your experience with me. Your feedback will be an invaluable guide for both of us, as I will use this information to continue to guide and support you and your changing needs and empower you on your journey to holistic health and wellness.
